Machine Learning Engineer

Askuity is a Toronto-based retail analytics software company operating as an innovative new division within The Home Depot (THD). Askuity’s mission is to enable suppliers and merchants at The Home Depot to make profitable, data-driven decisions and drive real-time execution.

We are looking for a talented, Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team. Working within an Agile environment you will assist in the development of machine learning driven functionality within the Askuity platform and mobile app. If you are driven, a detail-oriented problem solver, and are looking for an opportunity where you can develop data-driven applications at-scale, Askuity is a great organization for you to grow within.



  • Architect, build, test, deploy distributed, scalable, and resilient Spark data pipelines for machine learning workloads.
  • Develop robust test automation for data and model pipelines
  • Wrapping Machine Learning models developed by data scientists into APIs
  • Deploy fully containerized Docker/Kubernetes Data processing, and Machine Learning model pipelines into AWS or GCP cloud environments
  • Develop assessment frameworks for data completeness, integrity and validity, and document detailed pipeline designs
  • Ensure all solutions comply with the highest levels of security, privacy, and data governance requirements as outlined by THD standards
  • Train and mentor junior team members
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and a thought leader, continuously following industry trends, the latest competitive developments, and delivering papers and presentations at major industry conferences and events


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent technology field
  • 5+ years of production programming experience (preferably with Python, or another OO language)
  • 3+ years of proven experience in developing Spark applications (strong knowledge optimizing code for Spark jobs)
  • Experience deploying containerized Docker/Kubernetes applications
  • Experience with developing APIs (e.g. gRPC/REST with OpenAPI/Swagger)
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix operating systems, utilities and tools
  • Development experience with storage and compute services on AWS or GCP is strongly preferred
